World Press Photo is an independent, non-profit organization known for organizing the world's largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest. Prize winning photographs are assembled into a traveling exhibition visited by over a million people in 40 countries. The Walkley Awards are an annual Australian journalism award. Winners are chosen by an independent board consisting of prominent journalists and photographers. The awards are administered by the Walkley Foundation for Journalism and are sometimes considered an Australian equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize.

There are 33 awards presented each year to Australian newspapers or daily news organizations. The awards are formally announced in October, and are presented at a formal ceremony in early December.
